Rishikesh is a city and community board in the Dehradun district of the small state of Uttarakhand, India. Also well-known as the 'Yoga capital of the world', Rishikesh is to the top with spiritual institutes and places of spiritual importance which is visited by a big number of people looking for peace, tranquillity of just a new religious experience.


Rishikesh is personally join with the marathon of Ramayan, the marvel of lord Rama who killed the devil king Ravana, after he abducted Rama's wife, Sita. It is believed that lord Rama did reparation here in Rishikesh before going for war against Ravana. The well-known Lakshman Jhula is also joined with the same epic. It is whispered that Rama's brother, Lakshman who was also in exile with his brother, made a jute bridge to cross the river Ganga. That bridge has been replaced by an iron deferment bridge by the name of Lakshman Jhula.

Rishikesh Today : Rishikesh has many well-known institutes as well as ashrams and is the throttlehold of the genuine holy experience that Hinduism is so famed for. The 120-year old Kailas Ashram Brahmavidyapeetham, for instance, is a major institution that has been working continuously for preserving and promoting the traditional Vedantic studies. Many famous personality like Swami Vivekananda, Swami Shivananda and Swami Ram Teerth have been its student. There was also the prominent Ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, where the Beatles visited and stayed for some time. The Ashram is closed now.

Bharat Mandir : Although the main divinity of the shrine is lord Vishnu, the temple is devoted to Bharat, lord Rama's youngest brother.

Gita Bhawan : A very spiritual and significant position for the Hindu Brahmins, Gita Bhawan is the position where normal reading of the Ramayana takes position.

Lakshman Jhula : The flatten postponement bridge, which has replaced the once jute one is associated with the story of Ramayana. Lakshman, the brother of lord Rama, made a jute viaduct to cross the blessed river Ganga when they visited this place through their 14 year long exile.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple : The highly respected temple, devoted to the blue throated lord Shiva, Neelkanth Mahadev is located in the deep forest about 20 kilometres away from Rishikesh.

Swargashram : One of the most well-known places of Rishikesh, Swargashram is a small community consisting of plentiful temples and ashrams at a distance of around 5 kilometres from Rishikesh.

Rishikesh by Rail : Rishikesh is a main railway station and positioned at distance of approximately 25 kilometres.

Rishikesh by Road : Rishikesh is well associated by roads with all the main cities of the state as well as the National Capital Delhi which is at a distance of 230 kilometres.
